Immigration:
Visas for Crime Victims
with the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC)
PBN helps immigrant victims of domestic violence and other crimes rebuild their lives. Under the Violence Against Women Act, undocumented persons can file for lawful permanent residency without having to rely on their abusive spouses. We also assist victims of other crimes who, after assisting law enforcement, may apply for a U Visa for temporary permission to remain in the United States.
PBN is especially proud of our ability to serve those whose first language is not English through the help of our volunteer translators. Often clients who do not speak English have the longest waiting times for assistance.
Pierangela Murphy, a former corporate attorney, discusses her first VAWA case for the ABA's Pro Bono Week. (PBN was the West Cook Pro Bono Network.)
