Domestic Violence

Orders of Protection Litigation

with LAF & Sarah's Inn

Obtaining an Order of Protection against an abusive partner is an intimidating and cumbersome process, but is often crucial for an individual's safety.

Working with LAF and Sarah's Inn, PBN volunteers represent

domestic violence victims seeking to obtain orders of protection. After a client receives an Emergency Order of Protection at the Maybrook Courthouse (in Maywood), a two-person team of attorneys meets with the client, obtains all necessary evidence and paperwork, and then represents the client during the plenary hearing for a permanent order of protection.

Before this program started, there was no coordinated access to pro bono attorneys for those seeking orders of protection.
